A Korean exchange student, Un Kyu Choi, aged 25, had been in the United States only a day before being run down, allegedly by 20 year old Ashley Wick. The Whatcom County Prosecutor's office has charged Wick with vehicular homicide after Bellingham Police found the a van with front end damage matching the description of the offending vehicle at Wick's residence. Upon confronting Wick at the residence and administering a Breathalyzer, she blew a .096. Arraignment has been scheduled for Jan. 18.

This is a horrifying tragedy, and my heart goes out to this young man's family. In no way do I want to minimize that aspect of this event, but what I'd like to know is what people think of the DUI laws that are about to come into play here.

The sad truth is that there is no system of laws to prevent this kind of tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with the young man's family.

Senseless, tragic. My prayers go out to the young gentleman and his family, too.
Do I understand correctly that this is not the driver's first hit and run offense?

You better laugh at yourself,
Everyone else is.

Haven't heard that level of detail yet. I'm sure this will dominate the news for the next few days, so more information will surely be coming out.

There is a local business that has a card on campus (?Viking Union?) for students and others to sign. Details on that are missing from the updated story, but I thought that was a nice gesture. They will be giving that to the young man's family. The family flew in Wednesday and is staying at the Lakeway Inn. This whole event just makes your head spin.
