Chris Collinsworth was interviewing Kobe Bryant (Team USA Basketball), and ended up asking the most moronic question.
Collinsworth: Tell the story when you first got your USA uniform.
Kobe: Well I had goosebumps and I actually just looked at it for awhile. I just held it there and I laid it across my bed and I just stared at it for a few minutes; just because as a kid growing up this is the ultimate, ultimate in basketball.
Collinsworth: Where does the patriotism come from inside of you? Historically, what is it?
Kobe: Well, you know it’s just our country, it’s... we believe is the greatest country in the world. It has given us so many great opportunities, and it’s just a sense of pride that you have; that you say "You know what? Our country is the best!"
Collinsworth: Is that a ‘cool’ thing to say, in this day and age? That you love your country, and that you’re fighting for the red, white and blue? It seems sort of like a day gone by(?)
Kobe: No, it’s a cool thing for me to say. I feel great about it, and I’m not ashamed to say it. I mean, this is a tremendous honor.

Maybe this Collinsworth guy should stay in China for a while and try being a (non-government) journalist. He might actually come back with a little more respect for this country. Sad, truly sad.

Collinsworth has always "appeared" to be a nincompoop, in my unhumble opinion. I'll stick with Mike and Mike in the Morning. Jim Rome is great, too. (that's why I never listen to Rush...)

I'm so fortunate that in my job, I am able to work from my home office three days a week. So, I have the Olympics on just to my left, the Canadian coverage. The US men's baseball team was playing Canada. The Canadian commentator was talking about how most of these players are MLB minor league guys, and how in his conversations with them, they made is SO clear that while their goal is to make it to their respective Major League teams, that it is the ultimate honor to play as a representative of their country. I actually got a little choked up listening to him describe that. BHammer, Chris Collinsworth used to play receiver for the Bengals (pretty decent player), and now he does sports commentary for NBC and HBO. You might recognize the face. What an idiotic question to ask. I heard Kobe's response (recorded), but would love to have seen his face. He really emphasized the ME on the "It's a cool thing for ME to do" as if to say, "You can be as uncool as you want. I love my country." I've never been a huge Kobe fan until now. What a classy answer.

Collinsworth played for the Bengals when they couldn't even buy a win.

Uhhhh, Dexter, you might want to check your facts. Chris played for the Bengals in the Super Bowl and several AFC Championship games as well. If memory serves me correctly, one (or two) AFC playoff wins were over the Ground Chuck Seahawks.
So next time you visit the neighborhood, please bring a few more grey cells, or a least some warm, fuzzy slippers.
It's a beautiful day in the Neighborhood, Mr. Neighbor

I've been gone fer a while, so this is the first I've seen your comment Mr. Neighbor. In case you've never read my disclaimer, I can't be encumbered by an intellect... You had to remind me of the Knoxville years, now didn't you...
