How do I embed a photograph or other image into my message?

For starters, you need to host them offsite. Pictures take up a lot of drive space, and while they are fun, funny and often interesting, the main thrust at EoW is the sharing of ideas, so we want to reserve our drive space for that.

So, to embed a photo, you must have a place that stores them for you. Then you can "point" to that location. If you are a Comcast subscriber for your internet service, you already have that storage space with your email account.

To activate it:
1. Go to http://www.comcast.net
2. Click the "Sign In" link in the upper left corner.
3. Log in with your credentials (I can't tell you what they are.)
4. Click the link "Enable/Disable Personal Web Pages. It's in the left list of links, about halfway down.
5. Click the button next to "Personal Web Pages Enabled" and click update.

You're done with that part!

To put your photos there:
1. Open Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer). This is the icon that is a manilla folder with a magnifying glass on it.
2. For the Address, type ftp://upload.comcast.net and hit Enter. It should ask you for an ID and Password.
3. Enter the same credentials used above. It should open an empty folder on the Comcast server that is dedicated to you.
4. Drag and drop your pictures into that empty folder.

You're done with that part too!

To point to your pictures:
1. Start a new message on EoW, or reply to an existing message.
2. When you reach the point in your post that you want to insert an image, click the Image icon on the toolbar. It is the one that looks like a picture of a mountain.
3. Between the img and /img tags is where you point to your photo storage. It will be a Comcast web address followed by a tilde "~" and your user ID, which also happens to be your Comcast email name. For example, let's say your Comcast account ID was "tigger" with an email of tigger@comcast.net And let's say you uploaded a photo called "birthday.jpg." Between the image tags, place the following: http://home.comcast.net/~tigger/birthday.jpg

That's it! Your photo should display.
