I must confess, I'd never heard of this guy before, but he spoke at last month's Whatcom County Republican Party Central Committee meeting. I was there, and thought, "Oh, man. Here comes another political speech filled with rhetoric." I'm telling you what... this guy knocked my socks off! I can't even vote for him (not my district), but I'm going to help his campaign. I was completely caught off-guard by him and just as completely impressed. Here is the link to his web site: http://www.stevevanluven.com

Congrats on winning the top two primary. Now, on to the general election!

You will make a great Senator for the 40th district.

Steve has 17.5 years of experience in our state legislature and lengthy family history in both Whatcom and Skagit Counties. He will give us an immediate voice in Olympia and is not afraid to take a stand. He knows what the job requires and will hit the ground running. We might be wise to check out his website and think about giving him an opportunity to address our concerns. He is likely our best chance to be heard. Welcome home, Steve. The 40th district needs you.

Van Luven is the solid, best choice for 40th District Senate Seat

Van Luven's 17 plus years serving all of us in the State Legislature, no matter the party affiliation, is solid, practical experienced based history that is well documented and a noteworthy service.

After reading more from SVL's website (thank you DJ!), I am impressed by his background, his track record, and his long-standing relationships with other movers and shakers in the state. He can, in fact, hit the ground running where the other guy vying for the same Senate seat just plain doesn’t have the remarkable experience that Van Luven has earned already. I believe that Van Luven is the best candidate for the job.

It is unusual for me to even be impressed enough to go out of my way to comment for any candidate, but I have read good things about Van Luven and like the fact that he actually states his positions on a number of topics and issues. I have seen him speak at two different meetings now, and am impressed with his smart approach to each issue, regardless of party affiliation. That can't be said for most of the other candidates this upcoming election, for any race!

Furthermore, Van Luven obviously cares deeply enough about the people and issues facing the 40th district to take on the big task of running for the Senate seat and he will be an excellent Senator for the state. Van Luven has lived on the drive-on Samish Island for 5 years now and he lives centrally to the 40th District area, so he can serve those parts of the 40th easily for Whatcom, Skagit, and Island County. I encourage you to read more and find a way to hear Van Luven speak. He does his homework on issues and is willing to stand-up for things he believes in; there is no “wishy-washy” stuff from Van Luven as is seen commonly in politics today from so many other candidates and politicians.

By the way, Van Luven was on KGMI radio talk show with Patti Brooks this week on Wednesday morning, August 27th (her partner was out of town). The link to listen to the issues as discussed with Van Luven and Patti Brooks, while it is available, is at this link below:

Good luck Steve Van Luven, many people in the 40th District, just like me, think that you are the best guy to handle the job for the people of the 40th. We will look forward to meeting you, and other candidates, at upcoming area social events.
